Administrative Set up

The administrative head of the Department is the Conservator of Forests/ Deputy Conservator of Forests, who is the technical adviser to the Administration in all matters relating to Environment and Forest. He is also the Chief Wildlife Warden for the U.T. of Lakshadweep Administration, and exercises all the statutory powers confined by Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 and its related laws in this capacity. He we also exercise other powers as are specifically assigned to him by the Administrator, U.T. of Lakshadweep Islands and / or Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India by general or special order. For smooth functioning of the Department, various administrative management beats are set up. For further expansion or better management Conservator of Forests/ Deputy Conservator of Forests by order alter or add any of the administrative setup described under. For easy Administrative management, the entire Lakshadweep is divided into two territorial zones.

1) Lakshadweep South Zone
2) Lakshadweep North Zone

The Conservator of Forests/ Deputy Conservator of Forests is the head of the Department of Environment & Forest establishment in all the administrative as well as technical execution of all the orders, Acts and Laws in the Atal Paryavaran Bhavan (Head Office) at Kavaratti. In order to have the smooth functioning of the administration and technical execution of all the works of the Department of Environment & Forest the following seven divisions are established.
